Wendy S. was in her third year of teaching when she decided to try a new way of helping students keep track of their Istation usage goals.
She made sure each child knew their tier and how many minutes they needed to use Istation every week. She explained that the time they spent on Istation would help them become stronger readers.
Every morning before students entered her class, Wendy logged in to the Istation Report and Management website and checked her students' activity. She did some quick math, grabbed a dry erase marker and went to work. In the corner of each child’s desk, she printed the number of minutes they still needed to work on Istation in order to reach their goal for the week. Wendy says giving students a visual representation of what was still expected of them helped keep them accountable. “So they all came in excited to see, ‘How far did I get?’ or ‘How much time do I have left?’” Wendy said. “When they reached that goal, they knew they got to choose a special activity to go along with it.”
