Thompsonville CUSD 174, a K-12 Title I school in southern Illinois, is the heart of the community. Robin Culbreth, the intervention specialist at the school, said, “I set high expectations for our students. I think that’s important. I have students reaching the Lexile® levels designated for higher grade levels, and Istation is helping us achieve those goals.”Culbreth explained further that Istation makes her a better teacher. It allows her to meet the individual needs of each and every student. She went on to say that the specificity of the data generated by Istation shows exactly where a student is struggling.
The school is utilizing Istation Reading to its fullest potential by practicing “Tier Time” every morning in grades K through 5. During Tier Time, Tier 3 students work with Culbreth on the skills they struggle with. While this is going on, other students in the classroom may work with their teacher in small groups or spend time on the computer working on Istation. Teachers are accomplishing three things at once: individualized interventions, small-group instruction, and consistent Istation usage. They are seeing positive results!
Student tiers help teachers deliver differentiated instruction to students based on their level of difficulty with a particular subject matter.
