After our inagural Istation Educator Conference in February, we received this rave review from Leni Medley, an educator at Pine Forest Elementary School in Vidor, Texas. Take a look:
Istation Educator Conference 2016 — WOW! I was blown away by this inaugural conference. I actually got to meet, shake hands with, and take pictures with some of the most creative people at the top of their fields: engineers, computer programmers, business giants, Grammy and Emmy award winners, and more! I was so surprised and very impressed to learn about the history and present development of the Istation program. Now I know why the kids and I love it so much!
The conference was so well-organized, and the whole staff of Istation was there to answer questions, give information, and completely energize the room with their excitement. Their level of energy lasted for the whole conference. Some conference attendees were asked to attend focus groups to give feedback to Istation staff members. All attendees were given multiple opportunities to ask questions and get the answers they needed. It was so helpful to get to talk to a human being with a wealth of knowledge about the program and ask questions that my teachers had brought to me. If one person couldn’t answer my questions, they would find someone who could. I felt comfortable and welcome to ask anything and to talk about whatever was on my mind.
One of my favorite parts was the guest speakers. All were teachers or former teachers with experience using Istation. They each had unique stories about what they did and how they helped children become better readers. Sharing ideas and collaboration is a powerful tool for teachers. This conference was the perfect venue for that.
Not only did they give us a new t-shirt with the Istation logo and a bag full of goodies, including a flash drive with most of the information from the presentations and handouts, but they also fed us well. We had a full breakfast both mornings including eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, bagels, toast, and oatmeal. For lunch, we were served delicious meats, veggies, salads, and desserts. The best thing about the meals was that we didn’t have to leave our hotel; they were served in the next room. It was very relaxing and tasty. We were also thankful to have coffee, tea, water, sodas, and many kinds of snacks throughout the days. The Istation staff really knows how to get to the heart of teachers!
The biggest surprise for me was Mr. Collins. He was absolutely the nicest person! He not only put up with me wanting a photo with him but insisted that we take it in front of the green screen! He was very personable and treated me like I was an old friend. Seeing him with the staff let everyone know what an awesome boss the Istation team has.
I am now super excited to go back to my campus and share everything that I’ve learned. And next year I want to be the first teacher to sign up for the Istation Teacher Conference 2017!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Leni! We look forward to seeing you at the conference in 2017.
