How to Keep Students Engaged During Remote Learning

Educators face unique challenges when it comes to keeping students engaged during virtual learning. There are countless distractions, mental fatigue, and more thrown into the mix while learning from a distance. It’s no wonder student engagement overall is difficult to maintain.

To provide some insight on how to keep students engaged during remote learning, MarketScale host Shelby Skrhak meets with Istation PD Specialists Angelica Casillas-Wortham and Tina Cole.

Casillas-Wortham explains how teacher transparency encourages students to work harder in their studies. If students understand why they’re being asked to do something on the computer, they may feel more motivated to work.

Teachers are encouraged to pause their online instruction every so often and get students to move around to combat restlessness.

“Children are getting tired sitting in front of the computer,” Casillas-Wortham said. “That’s not normally what they do. They don’t sit all day long in one classroom for hours at a time. They get to get up and transition and move around.”

Teachers know better than anyone that students’ emotions are important in the learning process. Casillas-Wortham and Cole also discuss why and how to implement social and emotional learning in your remote setting.
